August 2020 Love Letters: Day 23
Hello, sweetheart! <3
Today is my older sister’s birthday. I very much wish I was able to celebrate her in person, but she is all the way across the country so I just have to send her my love from far away. I hold her dearly in my heart and am so grateful to God that he chose her to be my older sister. She and my dad had a great day at the beach celebrating her life, and I can’t express how much she means to me. She and I have had a complicated relationship through the years, but no matter what, when I really needed her, she has shown up and I love her to the moon and back.
These are weird times to have a birthday, but it is absolutely still worth celebrating, even though it may have to be celebrated differently than what was done in the past. Many of our celebrations will have to be adjusted and adapted during however long this pandemic lasts for. It’s gonna be okay, my love. We may have different feelings we need to process and let flow through us as we settle into our new reality, and that’s okay, too. Your feelings are valid. You are allowed to let your feelings run the full spectrum of what it means to be a human, in all our glory. However, you don’t have to let your feelings run YOU.
I don’t know if you’re into yoga or meditation or prayer or contemplation, but those are all great tools I use to process my feelings without inflicting them on another human. Yoga has been an on/off relationship over the past few years, but I’m currently on again and today is Day 9 of Yoga with Adriene’s 31 day Revolution program. It’s only about 30 minutes a day and really helps me to stay centered, balanced, and grounded, even though it’s a bit of a challenge after not working out for longer than I’d like to admit. I highly recommend checking out some of her videos or signing up for a 30 day program yourself.
Anyway, darling, celebration: every day is cause to celebrate. Wear your fancy dresses. Eat the cake. Do the workout. Take the leap. CARPE DIEM! Times like these are certain to remind us of what is truly important, though that may look different for each of us. For me, it is important to grow my faith and relationship with our Creator, live in the moment, love on everyone I interact with, stay calm despite external circumstances, take better care of my temple by working out and eating healthier, and CREATE! These love letters have been my most dedicated act of creation, and even if just one person is moved or inspired by them, it makes this effort all worth it. (Drop me a comment and let me know you’re reading!)
Okay, my darling, it is time for me to sign off. I love you, I am praying for you, and I believe in you. *HUG*
Always,
L Joy
